Fuel poverty is one of the most pressing issues of the 21st Century.
In Wales around 12% of households are now classed as ‘fuel poor’ and unfortunately Covid has exacerbated the financial strain for many households.
That’s why when I spoke in the Chamber this week on the Warm Homes Discount, I highlighted that with over 2.2 million low income and vulnerable households in Britain benefitting from the scheme each year, it is the correct, and the best decision to extend it for a further 12 months. By also increasing the overall spending target of the scheme to £354 million, we will see even more households be able to access the support they need.
I am saddened that the Welsh Labour Government has failed to take action against this, as heating your home should never be a luxury, it is always a necessity.
I am therefore proud to see that this Conservative Government is committed to doing all it can to make sure every household is able to afford to properly heat their home
