Rob Roberts MP has written to The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and The Chancellor of the Exchequer highlighting the importance of committing to increasing state pension in line with inflation.
The triple lock ensures that the state pension increases each year in line with whichever is highest out of inflation, the average increase in wages across the UK or 2.5% and it was a Conservative Party manifesto commitment in 2019.
Commenting ahead of Thursdays Autumn Statement, the Member of Parliament for Delyn said:
“A number of residents in Delyn have written to me and spoken to my office about their extreme anxiety about the cost of living crisis. They, and I, want to see a commitment from a compassionate government to uplifting state pension in line with inflation for the next financial year.
“It is clear that the inflation-linked increase to the state pension must be implemented for my constituents, as Delyn has around 20% more over-65’s than the average UK constituency, and for people across the country until the UK is in a more stabilised position.
“I would find it difficult to support any reduction at all in the living standards of pensioners in Delyn.”
