MP for Delyn, Rob Roberts, welcomes the news that over 200 jobs are being created in Delyn – building on recent Government announcements which demonstrates the region’s growth as an economic powerhouse.
It has recently been announced that Oscar Mayer Ltd, a ready meals manufacturer which supplies the UK’s major supermarkets, will be creating over 250 extra jobs across its sites in Flint and Wrexham.
In Flint, the company is developing a new meat-free food factory on the site of the former David Woods Food Factory, which creates 200 new jobs for residents in Delyn. The additional 50 jobs will be situated at their Rowan Foods site on the Wrexham Industrial Estate.
These new job opportunities highlight that Delyn continues to develop as the region’s major hub for key employers - as companies like Oscar Mayer, along with Airbus and Kingspan, continue to invest locally and grow.
The announcement builds on the recent UK Government’s Budget which is also investing in North Wales by accelerating the North Wales Growth Deal from 15 years to 10 years. The North Wales Growth Deal is a significant piece of investment which shows the region’s potential, as the Deal will help create a further 3800 new jobs and support an uplift of £2.2 billion for the local economy.
While it is positive to see the many exciting new employment opportunities in Delyn and North Wales, it is just as important to ensure that employment support is offered, especially to those that may have lost their job or have been affected by the pandemic.
Consequently, it is encouraging to see UK Government schemes such as Kickstart providing employment support and opportunities for individuals both in Delyn and across the UK.
As Rob has recently met with the North and Mid Wales Jobcentre Plus team, as well as the Minister for Employment, to hear first-hand about the help available, he is encouraging individuals to get in touch and find out about the options and support available at their local Jobcentre Plus.
One of the many groups that the Jobcentre Plus work with is Remploy, one of the UK’s leading disability specialists, who help run the Department for Work and Pension’s Work and Health Programmes in North Wales. Earlier in the year, Rob was able to meet with Remploy to hear about the work they do to help local people with complex needs into sustainable employment.
Commenting, Rob said:
“As we move forward out of this pandemic, it is brilliant to see continued investment in our region – whether it is through job support schemes like Kickstart or through new job opportunities with key employers.
“These opportunities really highlight that is an exciting time to be in Delyn, and the wider North Wales region, as we are an up and coming area and the place to be to start and grow your business.”
Whether individuals are looking for a first job or need support to get back into work, the local Jobcentre Plus teams in Delyn, and organisations like Remploy, are ready and willing to help anyone – regardless of background or age.
