Delyn MP, Rob Roberts, launched a competition during National Butchers Week (8th-14th) in March to find Delyn's Favourite Butcher.
Rob is a strong supporter of the high street and advocates shopping local and using local independent businesses where ever possible. He asked members of the public to nominate their favourite butcher in his constituency via online, email or post.
The competition received an amazing response with nearly 200 entries.
The winner of Delyn's Favourite Butcher 2021 with 49% of the nominations is....
Morgan's Pori Gwych, Caerwys
After meeting the winning team to hand over the prize, Rob said:
“After an overwhelming response to the search for Delyn’s Favourite Butcher, I was delighted to be able to give the trophy for 2021 to Morgan’s Pori Gwych in Caerwys after they got almost 50% of the total votes cast.
All of the butchers around Delyn have amazing produce and I’ve been lucky enough to have been a customer at all of them at one time or another."
Here are some of the lovely things members of the public said about Morgan's Pori Gwych:
“Mr Morgan himself is a living legend, well respected and loved to the people of Caerwys”
“They not only provide a service; they go above and beyond to support the local community”
“Our family have used Morgan's butchers for over a decade, and wouldn't go anywhere else”
“We couldn’t have done lockdown without them. They are all so polite, helpful, and caring. We are so lucky to have them.”
“A real community gem”
“This is one of a dying breed of butchers which can still be described as a proper butchers”
“Very friendly service and very knowledgeable about their products”
“Have gone the extra mile and delivered to those that needed it”
“Deserve a big thank you from us all”
The winner receives:
- A framed certificate and engraved trophy.
- A bottle of House of Commons Champagne signed by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson
- A special invite to the Next Taste of Delyn event hosted by Rob in Westminster, which includes the opportunity to serve their produce at No.10.
Rob ended by saying
"Supporting local businesses of all type is crucial all the time, but particularly as we look to recover from the pandemic and get life “back to normal”. The butchers of Delyn are an important part of our towns and we have to do all we can to make sure they have a long future providing our communities with their high-quality produce.”
