Rob Roberts MP raised awareness on the national stage in Prime Minister’s Questions of Mynydd Mostyn Dairy’s battle to keep their milk shake vending machine business open.
Mynydd Mostyn Dairy have been threatened with an enforcement notice and the consequential closure of their popular milk vending machine business by Flintshire County Council. Rob has given his support to this small business and has promised to do everything he can to help them stay open, including raising their case in the House of Commons during PMQ’s.
The Prime Minister is a staunch supporter of small businesses and especially those just like Mynydd Mostyn who are sustainable and contribute to the UK reaching its climate targets of net zero by 2050.
Rob visited Mr and Mrs Jones, owners of Mynydd Mostyn Dairy, to discuss the issues that they have been having with the planning department at Flintshire County Council. Officials have stated that the self-serve milk machines are not in fitting with the wider farm and have denied a request for a lawful development certificate to be issued in respect of the machines. The Council stated that this decision was largely down to the scale of the milk vending business and also the lack of adequate parking.
Mr and Mrs Jones have worked extremely hard to make Mynydd Mostyn what it is today – an innovative, exciting and sustainable small business that is extremely popular with people in and around Delyn.
Rob said:
“I am fully supportive of this business and I will be doing everything I can to help them. Any business that has done it’s best to survive and diversify over the incredibly difficult last year, should be supported and not threatened by the local authority for doing all they can to grow.
Flintshire County Council should be encouraging businesses such as Mynydd Mostyn Dairy to grow and thrive, especially as they are sustainable and sell such brilliant local produce.
I will also be using their milk in my office to both support this fantastic local business as well as reduce my office’s consumption of single use plastic and wider environmental footprint.”
A petition has been created to help save Llaethdy Mynydd Mostyn Dairy from closing down and exemplify to Flintshire County Council the amount of local support there is for this small business to stay open.
