The MP for Delyn is spearheading a campaign to breathe new life into a much loved local beauty spot.
Residents from Oakenholt showed Rob Roberts around The Pandy Pond, so he could see for himself how the area has become neglected, overgrown and a magnet for litter.
Rob said:
“Our natural spaces have never been more important to us than during the current pandemic. We are all seeking local spaces to take exercise, educate our children – or simply relax and unwind. For some people, public spaces are their only access to the natural world.”
Restoring the pond and waterfall to their former glory is the prime aim of residents – who have now formed a group.
A spokesperson from the group has said:
“We cannot stress enough how important it is to make sure that our green spaces are properly maintained – not just for the residents to enjoy now, and in years to come – but also for the wellbeing of wildlife that have made The Pandy Pond their home.”
Flintshire County Council is responsible for maintaining the site, and residents have met with officials to discuss their concerns.
Now Rob Roberts is encouraging all sides to work together on a restoration project and has launched a campaign #savepandypond to raise awareness of the situation.
He is encouraging others to get involved by signing up to the campaign on his website, where they will also find a short questionnaire.
