Member of Parliament for Delyn, Rob Roberts, is calling on local residents to get involved and share their views on a range of subjects, as part of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee’s current inquires.
Select Committees, such as the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, are key parts of UK Parliament and contribute significantly to the work and running of both Houses. In the Commons, Select Committees are responsible for each government department and can carry out inquiries into relevant topics. As part of any inquiry, a committee can gather both written and oral evidence.
At present, the Welsh Affairs Select Committee, of which Rob is a member, have launched two new inquiries and want to hear the views of the people of Wales. Consequently, Rob is encouraging the people of Delyn to get involved to ensure that local views are represented, and the inquiry is as inclusive as possible.
The first inquiry, launched in June, will be examining the benefits system in Wales, following a period of unprecedented challenge for the benefits system as a result of the pandemic. As part of this inquiry, the Committee has launched a survey to hear the views of claimants in Wales, as well as those who may have considered claiming.
The second inquiry, launched in July, will be exploring the impact of major policy changes, particularly international trade and climate change, on family farms in Wales. The inquiry is currently accepting evidence and wants to hear from anyone with real life experience and knowledge of the industry.
Commenting, Rob said:
“I am proud to serve as a member of the Welsh Affairs Select Committee and take part in the wide variety of inquires which delve into subjects which have a real impact on the people of Wales.
“Both the new inquiries are hugely important, and it is right that we hear from people with real life experiences of these issues. Farming and agriculture is a significant industry here in Delyn so it would be great to have our local family farms represented.
"I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved and have their voices heard, as it is a great opportunity to shape the UK Government’s actions on these matters.”
The Committee’s survey examining the benefits system in Wales, is available in both English and Welsh, and is open until 22nd September. To take part, click here.
