Member of Parliament for Delyn Rob Roberts, has written to The Chancellor asking him to further protect low-income households against the backdrop of soaring fuel and energy prices.
Rob Roberts MP has written to the Chancellor asking him to do what he can to protect low-income households in his Delyn constituency as this year has saw a bigger VAT receipts total of £23.8billion.
Mr Roberts commented:
“The Chancellor has taken unprecedented steps for the United Kingdom as the Government and public look to live with covid and build back better.
"The fact is that post pandemic the Government has supported our high streets and local businesses in every way possible which has seen VAT receipts higher than expected. I firmly believe that the Chancellor should use this unexpected windfall in his Spring Statement to help protect the most vulnerable households against the ongoing rise of fuel and energy bills."
Fuel prices in Delyn have hit a high with petrol costing 165.9p per litre and 177.3p per litre which is estimated to cost £90 for a typical family car every time you fill up.
Further commenting, the Delyn MP said:
“I have also asked the Chancellor to work with the energy industry to introduce social tariffs which a recent report demonstrated could protect up to four million low-income households against soaring energy prices."
