Thanks to the help of Delyn MP, Rob Roberts an unexpecting Mold couple have received an unexpected gift this Christmas – a hardstanding-level driveway.
Mr Roberts’ office was contacted earlier this year by a concerned neighbour of Mr and Mrs Lloyd. He was informed about Mr Lloyd who sadly suffered a stroke in 2021 and now requires the use of a wheelchair and the care of his wife to get out and about. The only suitable access to and from their home was via a rear entrance, which was down an uneven and unstable un-adopted lane, which the Lloyd family could be seen struggling with.
Representations for help were made to Flintshire County Council but these were refused. So, the Delyn MP put a call out on his social media asking for the help of any local groundwork or paving companies. A couple of days later Jamie Roberts of J R Slurry Sealing Ltd contacted Rob’s office and agreed to help.
Jamie and his team arrived at the home of Mr & Mrs Lloyd’s on the morning of the 8th December, cleared the existing uneven surface and laid a solid, level tarmac access path.
Following the completion of the job, Mr Roberts said:
“I’d like to extend a massive thank you to Jamie and his team for answering my call for help. This is an incredibly kind and generous gesture. Without them Mr & Mrs Lloyd would have continued struggling getting to and from their own home, and nobody should face that problem.
“This fills me with pride and serves as a reminder to us all that there are good people in our community who are willing to help others, even those they may not know.
“Things like this are what my office is here for. This is why I became an MP, to help people in my community and make it a better place to live, work, and run a business from. If you or anybody you know needs help with a problem, get in touch with my office and we will do all we can to help.”
A spokesperson from Mr Roberts office said:
“When I spoke to Mrs Lloyd and explained there was a company willing to help them, she was shocked and delighted. She explained how difficult it was getting the wheelchair in and out of the house, almost making it impossible for them to get out in certain weather conditions.
Jamie, owner of J R Slurry Sealing said:
“I am pleased to be of help. Mr and Mrs Lloyd are a lovely couple, and it is a pleasure knowing that a small gesture like this will make all the difference to their lives.
“I think it’s important to give back to our community in whatever way we can, which is why I answered Mr Roberts’ call for help.”
Commenting on the work, Mrs Lloyd said:
“I’m so surprised someone is willing to help us. It will make all the difference not having to struggle with the wheelchair, and of course it will make the journey more comfortable and less worrying for Noel.”
