Excellent transport links are vital to improving the lives of local residents and helping businesses grow in Delyn. A new station would be transformative for the local area.
On Friday 28th January I secured an Adjournment Debate in the House of Commons. I discussed the proposal of building a train station at Holywell and Greenfield directly with the Transport Minister, Rt. Hon. Robert Courts MP.
Transport in many ways is a devolved matter and so in the hands of the Welsh Government. Transport infrastructure however is a reserved matter and so building new tracks and stations is a matter for the UK Government.
So I asked the Minister to commit to visiting the proposed site to see for himself how a station would improve access to the local area and to meet with key stakeholders. I also asked him to commit to funding the next stage of the process - the development of a strategic business case.
I have also committed to working with the Welsh Government on other local transport projects to help better connect our region.
I will be working with the Department for Transport, the UK Government, and Flintshire County Council to get this project moving for the benefit of residents in Delyn.
